Happy and Healthy Development
Osteopathic treatments are gentle and non-invasive, and therefore are perfectly suited to the treatment of babies and small children. Our treatments may help with problems such as: difficulty sleeping, colic, reflux, digestive issues, feeding difficulties and obvious asymmetries in head shape. In small children, osteopathy may also help with headaches, back and neck pain and postural problems.
Many of the Osteopaths at Southside Clinic are highly trained in gentle, non-manipulative techniques that are very beneficial in optimising the health of children and babies. Cranial Osteopathy is one of the treatment techniques that we often utilise in the treatment of babies and small children.
In babies, it is often beneficial to bring your baby for an osteopathic check-up if the labour has been too long, too short, caesarean, breech, or even a traumatic labour such as births when instruments/forceps are used. Osteopaths are trained to detect strain patterns throughout the whole body. They use their highly developed sense of touch to assess the subtle movements of the baby’s skull and body, and use equally gentle techniques to release restrictions and to stimulate the babies own inherent healing mechanisms, aiding a return to health.
In young children, an osteopathic check-up or treatment is beneficial after a fall or after a sporting injury. Postural assessment is also important in children and teenagers, as the earlier postural problems are identified and treated, the better they usually respond.
